A Gold Medalist in Mass Communication & Journalism, Syeda Afshana is an academic, researcher, independent columnist and poet. She is currently a Professor at the Media Education Research Centre, University of Kashmir, and also serves as the Coordinator of the Design Your Degree Centre.
She specializes in International Relations, Convergent Journalism, Health Communication, Gender Issues and Social Impact Media, leveraging her expertise to tackle critical societal challenges through research advocacy and community engagement.
She has guided and continues to mentor Ph.D. scholars while supervising multiple postgraduate dissertations, making significant contributions to media research and pedagogy.
A Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University’s Centre of International Studies, she has attended prestigious fellowships and workshops at Harvard University, Cambridge University, University of Johannesburg, IAL Germany and Nazareth College (USA).
She has also collaborated with UNFPA, UGC and national research institutes, leading studies on journalism, media ethics, gender, and rural development.
She has also authored several books on poetry and prose, contributed chapters to multiple national and international textbooks and published numerous research papers. Her work has been widely recognized for its unique perspective and insightful analysis.
Beyond academia, she also serves as a member of the various varsity and national committees; and a Project Head & Media Consultant for the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on Ageing (CISA), playing a key role in upholding ethical standards in research and advancing impactful social initiatives.
