MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) as an e-learning initiative is gaining currency at a fast pace. Looking at the success gained by Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Open University UK, India too is taking steps to embrace MOOCs as a pedagogy for widening access to higher education. To meet this objective, the indigenous platform for e-learning SWAYAM (Study Web of Active Learning by Young and Aspiring Minds) has been launched by MHRD. Under the SWAYAM project various universities/institutions in the country have been given the responsibility to develop MOOC courses. EMMRC, University of Kashmir is also one of the players in the development of MOOC courses for University of Kashmir.
